Board Selection

Coastal Financial Credit Union is a democratic financial co-operative that operates with the best interests of our members, community, and environment in mind. You could play an integral role in shaping the future direction of this progressive, dynamic, and caring organization.

If you are interested in joining the Board of Directors you must:

  1. Read the entire 2024 Nomination Package here
  2. Print one-sided, pages 39-44 for signatures and hard copy submission.
  3. MANDATORY!!!!! Meet with a member of the Nomination Committee to obtain important information, assist you in reviewing your Nomination Package, and witness your signature(s).
  4. Complete the Nomination Package in full, including witnesses, photo, and signatures from qualified members who are nominating you.
  5. Submit the Nomination Package (in hard copy (pg 39-44) AND electronic format) by the deadline noted in the instructions.



Who is Eligible to become a Director?

In order to be eligible to serve as a Director of Coastal Financial Credit Union, the individual must be a Canadian citizen, eighteen years of age and be a member of the credit union in good standing. As set out in the Credit Union Act and the by-laws of the credit union, the following persons are not eligible;

  • an un-discharged bankrupt,
  • a current employee of the credit union, or anyone who, in the past two years, has been an employee of the credit union, Atlantic Central or the Credit Union Deposit Insurance Corporation,
  • an auditor, or partner of the auditor's firm, of the credit union,
  • a solicitor, or partner of the solicitor's firm, of the credit union, or Atlantic Central
  • a civil servant whose official duties are concerned with the affairs of the credit unions,
  • a person who is in arrears for more than ninety (90) days under a debt obligation to a credit union within the past year,
  • a person who is in breach of any policy of the credit union,
  • a person who fails to attend three Board meetings within a twelve (12) month period, without cause satisfactory to the other members of the Board of Directors,
  • any individual who has been a member with a fully paid share account for less than one year from the date of the call for nominations

Are you Eligible to Vote?

Who may vote? Every member who is 18 years of age and in good standing* is entitled to one vote.

 

*In good standing means that the member has a share balance of not less than $25.00, are the first name on the account or have full member status as of the Record Date (one day before the AGM is announced). The Credit Union Act does not allow members to vote more than once per question or to vote by proxy. If a corporation or association is a member of Coastal Financial Credit Union, the Credit Union shall recognize a natural person authorized to represent the corporation or association by a resolution of the directors of governing body of the corporation or association.
